NAS that supports SSDs with TRIM? [SOLVED]

Q. I am looking for a NAS that will let me use SSDs and supports TRIM. That is very important to me because I want the SSDs to last a long time. I like Intel or Samsung drives if possible and I only need 100GB to 200GB or so. FYI I am looking for a two bay RAID1 mirrored solution. Thank you! -Sergio Kan A. Hi Sergio, I think you are in luck 🙂 Synology is a well respected NAS brand

Determine if TRIM is supported and enabled on an SSD!

Today I was installing a Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SSD in a new server. Everything went smoothly, but I wanted to make sure that TRIM was actually working. This turned out to be slightly trickier than one might imagine! 😉 First Samsung’s SSD Magician Tool was of no use. CrystalDiskInfo reported that my SSD supported TRIM (which I already knew) but really gave no indication that Windows 7 and the SSD were working in concert to accomplish TRIMming. Nothing really

ASUS Q200E hard drive upgrade instructions (replace w/SSD)

The Q200E is a great little laptop that is generally available for about $449 at Best Buy. The Q200e and the other similar models sold elsewhere (X202E, S200E) are definitely one of the best touchscreen Windows 8 laptop options out there! Unfortunately, they are all shipped with a relatively slow hard drive and the RAM is soldered in. The only other thing the Q200E is lacking is Bluetooth 🙁 EASY PERFORMANCE UPGRADES: You can now replace the slow hard drive

ASUS X202E hard drive upgrade instructions (replace w/SSD)

The X202E-DH31T is a very cool little laptop and for the price ($400-$500) it is definitely one of the best touchscreen options out there! Unfortunately, it is saddled with a relatively slow hard drive and the RAM is soldered in. 🙁 PERFORMANCE TIP: replace the slow hard drive with a fast SSD. 🙂 See instructions below! *Bloatware removal is of course recommended as well  🙂 After upgrading to a SSD, commenter RJ suggested putting the old hard drive in a

ASUS S200E SSD Upgrade Guide

Here is a step-by-step photo tutorial for upgrading the S200E to utilize a fast SSD! 2016 UPDATE: My top SSD recommendation is the Samsung 850 EVO series. They start at around $70 for the 120GB version and they go all the way up to 2TB. Huge performance improvement vs the default HDD. RATING NOTE: while this upgrade is a little more difficult than some others, the new SSD still resulted in a HUGE performance improvement so I give this upgrade

IPCop ‘boot error’ occurs after successful installation

Summary of article: If you mount the IPCop (or smoothwall) ISO via IPMI and then install, you are likely to get a boot error once you reboot and the ISO is unmounted. A workaround is to install via an actual DVD drive* (USB, SATA or IDE should all work) *you can remove the drive after install. All the gory details: This weekend I was at the datacenter for work. Part of my task was to setup a new firewall using
