Lenovo X230 RAM/SSD Upgrades, IPS LCD installation

My X220 ThinkPad has finally started getting long in the tooth. Therefore, a replacement is in order. 🙂 After perusing all the latest and greatest laptops of 2016 (XPS 13, XPS 15, ASUS, HP, etc.) I settled on the Lenovo X230 ThinkPad. An incremental upgrade for sure, but one that has left me satisfied and feeling like I am good for another year or two at the least. The price was right and the upgrade-ability of these models is superb.

Lenovo X220 (X230, X240) disassembly & SSD upgrade guide

Please find below photos showing Lenovo ThinkPad X220 disassembly and mSATA SSD upgrade. WiFi is also easily upgradeable (make sure to get whitelisted card or modified BIOS) Lastly, 2.5″ SSD is upgradeable without even opening up the case 😉 NOTE: I recommend the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD for the mSATA SSD. This drive costs < $90 at Amazon with free shipping. For the 2.5″ drive I recommend a larger SSD like the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB which is roughly $160 on Amazon.

Intel Centrino 6235 or 7260 Bluetooth not detected by Windows [SOLVED]

I came across an interesting tip today: […] Samsung RC530 and a 7260.HMWWB. Bluetooth can’t be activated on some notebooks, so you need to activate it manually with a hardware “hack”. Just get some Scotch Tape / Sellotape (in german “Tesafilm”) and stick it on pin #51 (picture). Put the card back in the PCIe slot and have fun . […] this workaround works also for the 6235 and other Intel Wifi/Bluetooth cards.. via Intel Communities. Well worth checking out
