The frustrating error

Can you help me determine what causes this, I am working with some large Excel spreadsheets and it is driving me mad. Thank you.

A.  Hi Shelly! Since you are dealing with large Excel spreadsheets, the problem is likely that you are near the one million row count and that the pasted cells push you over the limit. It is absurd that Excel throws the wrong error message for this problem 🙁 At least knowing this you can hopefully work around the issue!

PS Here is an example spreadsheet that had this same issue, it is a little over 100MB:

It happens when trying to paste a single cell into a new blank sheet, both .xlxs files.

Peter, if it happens with a single cell into a blank sheet, then I do not think the one-million-row explanation from my post fits your case very well. My best guess would be merged cells, protected sheets, or some other workbook-specific issue instead.

    What is the solution?

Shubham, in the case I wrote about, the solution was realizing Excel was effectively at the row limit and the paste would have pushed it over. If your sheet is not huge, though, then you may be hitting a different cause.
