Why doed Acer say 8G max not 16 for the AO756 in the Acer Aspire One?

i have a question about aspire one, will it be better if it runs in xp? or windows 7? which would you recommend, thanks πŸ™‚

    • Hi Bianca,
Thank you for your question. I highly recommend Windows 7. Driver and application support will be better and you will have a much more modern operating system all around πŸ™‚

PS if you plan on putting in more than 4GB of memory I recommend Windows 7 64-bit (x64)

When these Acer models were introduced (or even before that, when they were being tested before introduction) the 4 GB memory module was the largest size available in quantity. So that’s what Acer and others used to test the computers.

This is common for all computers & models: the system (hardware & OS) are usually capable of addressing much more memory than is available on the market (back then) but when larger modules are eventually introduced it is discovered (by you and me!) that they work in our computers!

Why do Acer and other manufacturers not disclose this greater memory support of older models? Because they are not in the business of testing older computers and larger memory — they are in the business of selling new computers (with 16 GB and more memory) with hopes of you buying one of these rather than upgrading your old one!

    • Hi Dave,
Thank you for your comment. You make some great (and accurate) points about the computer industry and why many laptop manufacturers often do not certify memory modules larger than their currently shipping configurations. πŸ™‚

      Have a great week!

      Best regards,
