How to cancel Dish TV service [solved]

Dish still doesn’t offer an option to cancel via their website 🙁 Nor will they cancel via chat 🙁 So if you need to cancel your Dish TV service:

  1. Call: 866-218-2297
  2. Press “1” for English
  3. Press “1” to confirm your account (they look it up via the phone number you are calling from)
  4. Enter four digit account security code
  5. Talk to an account representative and request to cancel service they will likely offer you a discount or offer to put your service on hold for a period of time*

*NOTE: in my case, I was already on the $20 monthly package as we only use it for basic channels and we only use it in late winter. They offered to put my account on hold for 9 months (the maximum) and to reduce my rate by half (to $10) when I resume service. The also included HBO and Cinemax for a quarter for free when I resume. Overall I was satisfied with this offer and decided to do the hold for 9 months. Resuming service just requires a call back to them. Of course, if you want to cancel that is definitely a viable option, just stick with it and repeatedly tell them that you need to cancel.

      Hey Dennis, I’m not sure what the current Dish cancellation process looks like, but my best guess is that a direct call or account chat with a clear request to cancel is still the main path. If they keep redirecting you, it may help to check the latest support page or billing paperwork for the current contact method.

    Our dish served TV went dead over a week ago. I’ve tried several times each day since to contact Dish in order to either get help if something is wrong with my installation or to get some sort of explanation if there’s another problem. I’ve gotten absolutely no cooperation from Dish. This is costing me over $128.00 each month. I’ve even tried to cancel my account but Dish demands all kinds of information I don’t have. If I get no results from this message I plan to simply stop paying for services I’m not getting.

    Dish refuses to cancel their service without charging a hefty disconnect fee of $360.00 I ordered their 2 year plan at $47.00 a month which after fees and taxes comes to $57.00 a month. Due to a divorce and looking at being evicted from a house I’ve lived in for more than 20 years I explained my predicament wasted time one day with the customer service guy making notes. I called back again and got referred to 3 different people who all promised to look into my options until I was hooked up to some little Bitch named Ashley who flat refused to give me a break and simply let me cancel without being penalized! The thing was, she had the authority to do so and refused! I’ve had several dish contracts in the past, but customer loyalty means nothing to these bastards! So I don’t know where you come up with “Problem Solved”.

    i will have to cancel my Dish service because you dropped Root and I can no longer view Big Sky sports. I wish firms like Dish would inform customers of things like this. I also think we should be able to drop the service without a lot of rubbish on the phone. Good by Dish TV.
