Keep formatting in Excel when copying/pasting from web page

Question from B.G.:

Sorry to bother. How can I export and keep the integrity of the web page table columns? When I copy and paste to excel, it puts all data to 1 row.

Answer:  Good question! Please find the steps below:

Instructions
  1. In your web browser window showing the table/report, press CTRL+A (to select all)
  2. Then press CTRL+C (to copy)
  3. Switch to a blank spreadsheet in Excel, press CTRL+V (to paste)
That should result in a nice separate set of columns/rows.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues. Have a great day!

Hello. When I “CTRL+V” into the excel document, all of the information pastes into column A. This happens regardless of me selecting the right amount of cells, when I select the entire worksheet, or if I just select cell A1.
Any idea how to fix this?

Hey Keeley, that usually means the source content was copied as plain text rather than as HTML with table formatting. Make sure you’re selecting the actual table on the web page (not just the surrounding text) before copying. In some browsers it helps to click inside the table first, then do Ctrl+A to select all content on the page, then Ctrl+C. When you paste into Excel with Ctrl+V, if it’s still going into one column, try right-clicking the destination cell and choosing “Paste Special” to see if there’s a “Use Text Import Wizard” option that lets you set column delimiters.
