DEWALT DCL050 20V MAX LED Work Light Review – Is It Worth the Price?
🔦💡DEWALT DCL050 20V MAX LED Work Light – Decent, but Pricey
TL;DR: Solid work light if you’re locked into DeWalt’s 20V system, but overpriced compared to Ryobi’s more flexible PCL660B.
I do love a good flashlight/torch and I use them regularly for work and around the farm. I also enjoy many of Dewalt’s 20V and 60V tools so I thought I would give this flashlight a try when it was on sale at woot.com (for ~$39). Here are my impressions after a few months of use:
Brightness & Build 🌟
The DCL050 is a well-built, sturdy work light with three LEDs providing up to 500 lumens. It’s bright enough for most tasks, and the two brightness settings are a nice touch. The build quality is solid (as expected from DeWalt), and it feels like it can survive job site abuse.
🔄 Rotation: The head tilts 90° up/down, which is okay, but not great. I found it less adjustable than some competitors. Compare this to the Ryobi PCL660B, which has a more aim-able pivoting head.
Battery & Runtime 🔋
- Runs on DeWalt 20V MAX batteries (not included).
- Runtime Estimates:
- High Setting (500 lumens): Approximately 1 hour per amp-hour (Ah). For example, a 2.0Ah battery provides about 2 hours of light. amazon.com
- Low Setting (250 lumens): Approximately 2 hours per Ah. A 2.0Ah battery offers around 4 hours of light.
- No USB charging or power bank features, which would’ve been nice at this price point.
Value for Money 💰
Now, here’s where things fall apart. Even on sale for $49 (Woot), this feels overpriced for what it offers.
✔️ If you’re already deep in the DeWalt 20V lineup, it’s a decent choice.
❌ If you’re open to alternatives, the Ryobi PCL660B frequently drops below $30 and has a more versatile head.

Final Verdict 🎯
6/10 – Works well, feels durable, but is pricey for what it does. If you already have a stash of DeWalt 20V batteries, this can be a solid work light. However, better (and cheaper) options exist, especially if you don’t mind Ryobi’s 18V ecosystem.
Pros ✅
✔️ Sturdy build
✔️ Decent brightness (500 lumens)
✔️ Two brightness settings
Cons ❌
❌ Expensive for what it is
❌ Limited adjustability compared to Ryobi
❌ No USB charging/power bank features
Would I buy it again? Probably not at this price. With the economy (and the world) the way it is right now, I try to save as much money as I can and this is one purchase I regret a little bit. 😢
I will update this review as I continue to use the flashlight.
