BACKGROUND INFO:
The Olympus XZ-1 is a wonderful little camera. My wife makes extensive use of hers and I often borrow it as well.
We’re not the only ones that think it is a superb camera, OutBackPhoto (OBP) just posted their Field Notes for the camera:
The entire article is well worth reading and there are some nice images included as well…
Surprisingly, their only problem was with the default Olympus charging solution: the camera charges via USB (much like a cell phone). Personally, I am a fan of this method of charging because it reduces bulk and can reduce the amount of gear one needs to carry (though I do wish Olympus has used a standard micro-USB connector!)
OBP would prefer a standard charger so they can keep their spare topped up while using the camera.
Thankfully, this is not a problem!
Olympus makes a regular charger for the XZ-1 battery. 🙂
From the Olympus XZ-1 Support FAQ:
Does Olympus offer a battery charger for this camera?
The battery can be charged in-camera using the bundled F-2AC battery charger or power from a computer USB port. To charge the battery outside of the camera, Olympus offers the LI-50C battery charger, which can be purchased from The Olympus Store by clicking here.
Here is a bit more info on the charger:
Lithium Ion Battery Charger ( LI-50C )
This is the charger for the Lithium Ion Rechargeable Battery ( LI-50B ). This charger uses a fold out plug to keep it compact.
This charger replaces the charger that is included with your camera. It’s always handy to have a second charger for use at work, or on vacation.
Item #202165-410
Note: The charger’s input voltage will automatically regulate between 100V-240V~50/60Hz. For overseas use, we recommend only a plug adapter for the country you will be visiting. Plug adapters are usually sold at stores that feature travel items such as luggage.
Conclusion: it is nice to have TWO charging options
You can charge the camera via the included USB cable -or- you can pickup a LI-50C and charge batteries the conventional way. You could even charge simultaneously, one battery in camera via USB and one spare in the LI-50C. It is nice to have options!
