Google Workspace Price Hikes: Why I Finally Deleted My GSuite Account
Google’s GSuite/Workspace Price Hikes Were the Last Straw 💸
If you’ve been using Google’s GSuite (now Google Workspace) for a while, you’ve probably noticed the rapid fire price increases the past year. Well, they finally pushed me over the edge. After seeing my charges jump over 40% in just five months, I finally deleted my Workspace account and moved my email elsewhere. The kicker was that they made it so hard to get access to cancel my account that I had to basically block them via my payment method. 😢
📉 The Price Hike That Made Me Quit
Let’s break this down using my actual charges over a five-month period:
Date | Charge | % Increase from Previous Month |
---|---|---|
Jan 2024 | $15.10 | — |
Feb 2024 | $18.00 | +19% |
Mar 2024 | $18.00 | No change |
Apr 2024 | $18.69 | +4% |
May 2024 | $21.60 | +16% |

That’s a 43% total increase in five months. 😡 And no, I didn’t upgrade my plan or add new users. Google just keeps cranking up the prices with zero regard for small businesses and individuals who have been loyal customers for years.
💀 The worst part? They added absolutely nothing of value for the products/features that I use.
🚀 Why I Finally Pulled the Plug
I get it—services cost money, and Google is a business. But this was too much, too fast. At this rate, I’d be paying double what I originally signed up for within a year.
So, I finally made the switch. If you’re also getting hit by these hikes, now is a great time to look at alternatives (Zoho Mail, Fastmail, Proton Mail, or even self-hosted options if you’re tech-savvy).

🔍 More Info on Google’s NEW Price Hikes
If you haven’t been following the chaos, here’s what’s happening:
📢 Google increased Workspace prices in Jan 2025, blaming “AI-powered features” from Gemini (Google’s AI project). They didn’t give users a choice—just slapped a higher price tag on everyone. (source)
📈 New Pricing (Jan 2025):
- Business Starter → $6 → $7/month (annual) or $7.20 → $8.40/month (flexible)
- Business Standard → $12 → $14/month (annual) or $14.40 → $16.80/month (flexible)
- Business Plus → $18 → $22/month (annual) or $21.60 → $26.40/month (flexible)
👀 More AI, More $$$: Google claims these hikes are for AI-powered Gmail, Docs, and Meet features. But if you don’t need them? Too bad, you’re still paying more. (Reddit discussion)
🤔 What’s Your Plan?
I’ve moved my email elsewhere, and honestly? It feels good to be free. If you’re still using Workspace, are you planning to stick around or jump ship?
