How many external displays does the new 2021 24″ M1 iMac support? [ANSWERED]

Question: How many external monitors do the brand new 24 inch M1 retina iMacs support? (announced/released April/May 2021)

Answer: According to Apple, the M1 iMac appears to support ONE external display of up to 6K,

*emphasis added on “a” (single) display… not plural…

This is disappointing, but it parallels the limit on the M1 based Macbooks which only natively support one external display 🙁 I have tested this on my own M1 based machine and only one display works even if you use a Thunderbolt dock.

Some people add more monitors by using USB-C displaylink adapters/docks but hopefully Apple will remedy these issues when they release their “Pro” models with native external multi-monitor (dual, triple, quad) support. 🙂
