Good TV shows for Alzheimer’s and dementia Sufferers

If you have a loved one that suffers form Alzheimer’s or dementia, you may be looking for good TV shows that will help your loved one relax and enjoy their day.

Depending on the severity of the disease, your loved one may or may not be able to follow along throughout the series (in which case even a few favorite episodes can be nice). However, if they are still able to follow the progression of the series I have tried to list shows that have many episodes and seasons.

TIP: if you use something like a FireTV or Roku, enabling “autplay” or “autocontinue” will allow the show to continue after an episode ends. This can be helpful if your loved one is not able to operate the TV/remote etc.

Here is a list of TV shows that have been helpful to my loved on:

The Beverly Hillbillies

Andy Griffith Show

Columbo *note this series deals with murder, it is generally not graphic but if the subject matter would be disturbing to your loved one then you may want to skip this one. Conversely, Peter Falk (Leutenant Columbo) is a very entertaining actor and is generally composes himself in a very kind and caring manner in the show.

I Love Lucy

The Waltons *note that this series, while fairly wholesome, does deal with some fairly serious and potentially disconcerting issues (death, struggle, elderly issues). Personally for your loved ones comfort I would recommend only viewing the more upbeat and positive episodes.

This list will be updated as I have time and as I find good shows. Feel free to comment below if you have any suggestions! Good luck and God bless you to you and your loved one ❤💕🙏

PS if you or the grandkids get the chance watching these shows with your loved one can be a nice positive experience and can give you some new topics for conversation. 💭💖
