Recently Amazon has started posting notices like this one on some of its product listing: External token bounce back credit offer What exactly is that?! Well clicking the linkĀ did not show me any special offers so I decided to try it in a different web browser. That did the trick, the offer was for: “Take $30 Off: Upon approval for the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card, a $30 Amazon.com gift card will be loaded instantly into your Amazon account Learn More.”

Tablet teardowns

Tablets are pretty awesome, but man can they be a pain to repair! Whereas a simple little notebook like the Acer AO722 requires removal of a SINGLE screw to access key components, something like the iPad mini is an exercise in frustration. šŸ™ With that being said, here is a pretty comprehensive look at tabletĀ repairability. Trying out Google’s PageSpeed service

I always enjoy a good experiment and if it involves a new web service the all the better. Tonight I am testing out the Google PageSpeed service: So far the results look promising. šŸ™‚ As of right now only a small number of visitors are getting the PageSpeed enhanced version of this site.Ā Tomorrow will be the real test, as that will be when the required DNS changes haveĀ propagatedĀ out to all visitors. As such, if you notice anything wonky with jdhodges.com

Display dimming problem Dell notebooks

I am doing some research on a display dimming problem on my DellĀ LatitudeĀ E6430. Specifically, when using the laptop in a dim/darkĀ environment, the display brightness sometimes varies with a sort of brightness-fluctuation. It can be quite annoying as it is almost like flickering. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is that it is hard to replicate so troubleshooting can be difficult!
