Can I just set a mattress on the floor?
Q. Can I just set a mattress on the floor? Thank you for your input 🙂 –Sleeper in Seattle
A. Yes you can 🙂
However, before foregoing a boxspring you may want to consider some of the benefits that a bedframe and or boxspring provide:
- Box springs provide can provide extra cushioning
- Having an elevated bed can make it easier to get in/out of bed
- Having your mattress on a bed allows for more air circulation
- Elevated bedframes can provide under bed storage
Also, make sure that your floor does not suffer from extreme temperatures variations or moisture as mildewing of your mattress could become an issue.
With all that being said, there are many times when a conventional mattress or futon mattress placed directly on the floor can provide a nice low-profile sleep area while being very low cost (free) and using a minimum amount of space 🙂
BONUS TIP: if you are going to put your mattress directly on the floor, I highly recommend using a few (2-3) of these inexpensive camp pads side-by-side to provide some extra cushioning, firm grip, and a little bit of barrier between your floor surface and your mattress. Happy sleeping! 🙂
