How to Disable the “You Are Currently Being Recorded” Message on Wyze Cam
🔇 How to Disable the “You Are Currently Being Recorded” Message on Wyze Cam OG and OG Telephoto
(Yes, that overly dramatic voice can finally take a hike)
If you’ve recently picked up a Wyze Cam OG (or the OG Telephoto), you may have noticed a feature that’s… let’s say less than stealthy. When the camera detects motion, a robotic voice announces:
“You are currently being recorded.”
😬 Uh, thanks Wyze, but I’m trying to monitor, not startle the deer, delivery guy, or my own family.
🔍 What’s going on?
This message is part of a Motion Warning feature that Wyze enabled by default starting with firmware version 1.0.62. It’s technically intended as a deterrent or alert for areas where you want people to know they’re being recorded.
But for most of us, especially if you’re using the camera on private property or just don’t want your camera yelling like a mall cop, this is just unnecessary.
✅ How to turn it off
Wyze thankfully made this one easy to toggle.
Here’s how to shut it up:
- Open the Wyze app on your phone
- Tap on your Wyze Cam OG
- Tap the settings gear in the top right
- Select Advanced Settings
- Scroll down to Motion Warning
- Toggle it OFF
Boom. Silent sentry status restored. 😎
🧠 Pro Tips
- This only applies to the Wyze Cam OG and Wyze Cam OG Telephoto (as of now).
- It doesn’t affect motion detection or recordings, it only silences the audible warning.
- If you’re using the cam in a public-facing setup (e.g. a storefront), you may still want this on for legal/ethical transparency.
💭 Final thoughts
Wyze is great at packing features into low-cost hardware, but sometimes those defaults can be a bit… extra. Thankfully, they gave us the option to quiet the cam down without jumping through too many hoops.
Now, go forth and monitor in peace, without your camera yelling every time a squirrel passes by. 🐿️🎥
