Sony RX1 Sample Photos

Today my RX1 arrived in the mail. Very excited to test it out!   And here is one of my favorite photos of the day taken with the RX1, thank you to my wife for taking it! This was inside a restaurant with fairly low lighting and the RX1 did a splendid job IMHO. Focus appears to have actually been more on the hat brim than faces. Still, the photo is very pleasing to my eye. More samples to follow

Fastest Web Hosting

Wow, finding a quality post on “fastest web hosting” is exponentially harder today than a few years ago. In the past you could generally find a rather lengthy blog entry showcasing a nice comparison between top hosts. Today you find pages of search results tailored to sell you hosting and generate affiliate revenue for the site owner. 🙁 Thankfully, there are some rather in-depth comparisons and tests available out there. After perusing a good number of resources, I eventually settled on

InMotion Hosting: East vs. West Hosting

During the InMotion Hosting signup process, they ask if you want to be East or West coast. Specifically, which coast you want to optimize for by locating your site(s) on servers proximal to one coast or the other. Even though I am in relatively central US (MO), they recommended West and that is what I went with. Will keep you posted if I find any more specific info from them on server locations and responsiveness.

WEN 56200i Inverter Generator Review (real world, off the grid)

My family has lived off the grid for the past 25 years. No power lines, no phone lines and no utility bills. Over those many years, we have primarily used solar panels for our electricity needs. They do a stellar job, however, occasionally in rare multi-week cloudy periods we still need a good backup generator. We have used a variety of generators over the years, with our traditional favorite being Honda. However, four years ago I bought my first WEN generator.

5k Everyday

Two months ago I was running zero miles a month. One month ago I ran 100 miles and a half marathon thanks to some good friends, mapmyrun, and the extra mile challenge. Now I am setting out to accomplish 5k on foot everyday for 365 days. That comes out to 1825km or ~1134 miles. Self made rules: Days can be more than 5k but not less. Running is preferred but walking is okay as those days will constitute “rest days”. No treadmill. Elliptical

Lens mount diameters

When discussing in body image stabilization (IBIS) it is informative to know the lens mount diameters for each particular lens mount. More diameter relative to sensor size generally gives more leeway for IBIS movement and compensation. As such, here is a list of lens mount diameters: MFT (Micro Four Thirds) ~38mm (Olympus and Panasonic) FT (Four Thirds) 44mm (Olympus and Panasonic) Fuji X: 44mm Pentax K: 44mm Nikon F: 44mm Sony E: 46.1mm Minolta/Sony A: 49.7mm Canon EF: 54mm

LG G3 Questions

LG G3 Questions: Hello, please excuse my ignorance. So if I have a T-Mobile SIM card which I am using in my phone right now and put it in a LG G3 phone for example will this work. And if so, let’s say four or five months down the line I decide to switch to AT&T do I have to do anything different at all apart from just switching out an AT&T SIM card for my T-Mobile SIM card. I have
