Google Page Speed Service (speed up your website with Google)

I came across Google’s Page Speed Service today, here is the description of their service:

Page Speed Service is an online service to automatically speed up loading of your web pages. Page Speed Service fetches content from your servers, rewrites your pages by applying web performance best practices and serves them to end users via Google’s servers across the globe.

[…] You can run tests to measure the speed up of your site in a few minutes. Page Speed Service is currently offered free of charge to a limited set of webmasters during this trial period. Pricing will be competitive and details will be made available later. You can request access to the service by filling this web form.

Pretty cool stuff and I imagine this will be significantly more reliable than CloudFlare. I have been surprised how often I see CloudFlare error pages / downtime while visiting sites that use it. 🙁

There are only two causes of this:
    a) The site is actually having server issues.
    b) Requests from our IPs are being blocked at the host or server level. Site owners should make sure our IPs are whitelisted to prevent issues.

    • Hi Damon,
Thank you for the information. Next time I see a CloudFlare error message I will try to determine whether which one is occurring: (a) or (b).

      Best regards,
